Nigeria is the second largest investor in plastics technology and one of the three largest importers of packaging technology in Africa. With 66% of raw materials imported (mainly from the Middle East, Europe and Asia) and only 34% produced locally, the Nigerian market has great potential for exporters of plastics in primary forms.With € 165m in 2021 (+48% compared to 2020), Nigeria is the second largest importer of plastics technology in Africa, just behind Egypt (€ 202m) and well ahead of South Africa (€ 144m). Nigeria‘s imports increased by an average of 25% per year between 2016 and 2021.
And with € 151 million in 2021, Nigeria is also one of the three largest importers of packaging technology in Africa, in line with South Africa with € 152 million and behind Egypt with € 195 million. (VDMA)
